I first started cooking round about the time my oldest daughter was born, since that time I have been on a food journey, I spent part of 1979 and most of 1980 in Hong Kong. This was a food revelation for me and where I bought my first important cookbook – The Complete Asian Cookbook by Charmaine Solomon. Over the years I experimented with many recipes from that book and others that I acquired along the way always seeking to perfect my cooking and to come up with tasty and satisfying food. My favourite recipe from that book was the Sri Lankan Beef Curry which to this day I class as my “Signature” dish although I don’t make it very often these days.
After Hong Kong, I travelled to various countries including Zimbabwe, Belize, Italy, Canary Islands, Mexico, USA, Canada, Malta, Portugal, Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Germany, each of these places had an influence on the food I like to cook. I started getting serious about cooking around 2008 and after much bullying by my daughters and my long-suffering partner Gail I decided to start this blog.
I am not a chef, I’m purely self-taught and have enjoyed bringing the pleasure of food and new flavours to my family. I hope I can share some of this with you through my blog and as I continue my food journey.
Enjoy!
